Quick & Easy Tips to Polish Your Writing

The problem with English teachers is that they think everyone should know grammar the way they do. Even the best teachers do not know it all, so why would they expect it of their students? If you want your writing to have professional polish, here are some small tips that can make a big difference (from an English teacher.

Tip #1 -- Using Quotation Marks

When using quotation marks, always put commas and periods inside the end quotation mark.
Examples:
Sue said, "Life is beautiful."
Sue described her life as "beautiful."
Although Sue said her life was "beautiful," she has seen much tragedy.
There are different rules when ending the sentence with a question mark or exclamation point. If the mark goes with the quoted material, put it inside the quotation mark. If it goes with the entire sentence, put it on the outside.

Puppies vs. Punctuation
